Hi everyone. I wanted to give you all an update on my progress so far. I am not going to lie, getting used to the new diet has been and continues to be difficult. I am committed to making it work so I keep going. Unfortunately I do not have a scale that goes up high enough to give an update on my current weight. As of my last appointment at the bariatric center I was still at 565. I did just recently move to a new apartment that is more inviting to walking and the gym is open 24 hours so the only excuse to not exercising is me. My procedure is still scheduled for May 21, with the pre-op appointment on May 17. I may have to reschedule that because I am still far short of the $5,000 out of pocket cost I am going to have for the procedure. My Go Fund Me campaign is still active so if you would like to contribute follow the link at the end of this post. Now that I have my computer up and running at home I will be able to provide more regular updates on the Journey. In the meantime I want to thank everyone for their support through this journey of mine.
Time for another update. I went to my final required appointment at Sage Bariatric Institute on Feb 19. I was up to 565lbs. This is a little bit higher than my previous visit but this was my fault. I got away from the diet and did not exercise much at all. I have refocused on the diet and with my recent move I will be better able to exercise. My new apartment is more conducive to walking after I get off work and the gym has more equipment and is very close to my apartment. I will lose the weight I gained and more to get ready the upcoming surgery.
In related news my insurance provider approved the surgery. It is now scheduled for May 21. That is a little more than a month away. I still have to raise the money to pay for the procedure. To date I have raised $300 through my Go Fund Me campaign. I am still quite a bit away from goal of $5,000. I would like to be able to get these funds raised for the surgery. If anyone would like to help my get to my goal please follow the link: https://www.gofundme.com/help-me-with-next-step. This will take you to my Go Fund Me page and this will take you to my page. Even if you can only contribute $1 it will be helpful and greatly appreciated.
I am excited about the upcoming surgery and what the future holds but I am also very scared. See I have been overweight my entire life and the prospect of not being excessively overweight is a little frightening. I contacted the assistance program through my job and will take advantage of the free counseling sessions that are offered to help me begin to get my head around what it will mean to lose a large amount of weight. When I started this process I said that it was going to be a journey and I am committed to the adventure.
On 2/19 I had my final required doctor’s visit for the bariatric surgery that I am going to be having. My weight was 561. That is up a little from the previous appointment. Though that is disappointing I know I can lose the weight again and keep losing so that I can meet the goal of 50 pounds that my doctor wanted me to lose. Now the bariatric center is going to submit for final approval of the surgery from my insurance. I am hoping the approval goes through. The only thing I need to do is finish getting the money together to pay for my out of pocket cost for the procedure. So far I have been able to raise $300 through the Go Fund Me page that I set up. I am truly grateful to the people that have donated to help me. I just hope that I am to get the rest of the money together that I will need. Even with the insurance this is an expensive process. I will definitely keep updating as this process moves forward and decisions begin to get made.
One thing that I will be doing to get my weight loss going is to switch faithfully to the diet provided by the weight loss center. It will help me to eat a more balanced diet and will help me in reducing the overall calories that I will be eating. I will also start exercising more often. That is something that I haven’t done on a regular basis for a while. I will start small once or twice a week and work my way up to three or four days.
If you want to help me along my journey I have there is a link to my Go Fund Me page at the bottom of this post. Please donate and/or share this link with your friends. Also, I want to say thank you for all of your support during this journey that I have embarked on.

I had my fifth doctor’s appointment that is required by my insurance. Today I am down another 8 pounds. I am at 557lbs. That is 24 pounds lost overall. I am adhering more to the diet plan that I got at my first which has been helping me with losing weight. It has been a difficult road and I know that it will continue to be difficult but I will keep at it.
The next big step is the actual surgery. Earlier in January I created a Go Fund Me campaign to help raise the money that I will need to pay my out of pocket costs. I am nervous about what is to come but I am excited to take these next steps.
The new year has started. I have two more months of doctors supervised weight loss/nutrition appointments required by my insurance to approve the surgery. I created a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for the surgery. I know that my out of pocket expenses are going to be greater then I can afford myself. Here is a link to the page if you would like to make a donation. I am greatful for any help that anyone contributes. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and will post again soon.
I know, I know. I keep saying that I will post more often and then a whole month goes by before I make my next post. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in other things that I do not take the time out to post.
So I am back down to 565. I am so grateful that I was able to lose the weight that I had put on from the after my second weigh in. I have taken steps to prevent another increase in weight. I started tracking my meals using the fitness on my phone. One thing It is nice to see the nutritional values of my eating for the day. It has opened my eyes to things and already started to change some of my eating habits. I hope to continue to improve on that front. I am also going to start tracking my workouts on the app. I hope that it give some insights and help me to improve in that aspect as well. I am looking forward to the next few months, I am hoping that I will reach the goal the surgeon wants me to get to and the surgery will go as planned.
It has been a month since my last post so I thought I should update everyone.
Since the last post I have done my psych. evaluation and she gave me the all clear for the surgery. I also had my cardiologist consult for the surgery and was given the all clear there too. I wasn’t too overly concerned that I would be given the okay for the surgery but there is always some doubt.
Since the last post I gained some of the weight back and am now at 573. I blame myself for the weight gain. I haven’t been disciplined on my diet. I will get back to that. I also need to be disciplined and start getting up early to start a work out regime. My ultimate goal is to do strength training three days per week and cardiovascular training two days per week and then take one day off. I am committed to losing the 50 pounds that Dr. Gonzalez wants me to lose before the surgery.
I am going to try to post more frequently going forward and I am going try to post some photos as well. It is only fair that I share photographic examples of my progress on this journey.
Until next time…
So just to update everyone that is coming to this post from Facebook a few months ago I decided that I was going to start the process of doing a bariatric surgery through my insurance at work. This was not an easy decision for me because I always wanted to be the person that did it without surgery. When I started my job a few years ago I got a good start. I went from about 525lbs to down to about 489lbs. then the progress didn’t just stop, it reversed itself. I lost the motivation to keep working out and my weight went up to 581lbs. Last month I started the journey with the first appointment with the surgeon and nutrition class. I have started (slowly) the process of changing my diet and as a result I have lost 16lbs. I’m down to 565 now. I’m very excited about this progress because this is before I started purposeful exercising. I am going to be starting that in the time before my next appointment at the bariatric center. The next step is a,support group metting this coming Thursday evening. I am nervous but excited. I will keep this blog updated as I move through this process.
